Artist Biography:
I graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts with an emphasis on painting at the end of August 2014 from University Texas Pan-American. Now the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Currently Graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from The University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas 2016 – December 2019
Growing up myself as a migrant worker, I was brought up continually using my hands, either digging in the ground harvesting onions or using tools to fix broken machinery to keep the work going. With clay, I can continue working with my hands to create and experiment in many ways. Be it throwing a cylinder on the wheel or hand-building a thin-skinned sphere.
Ceramics will be my way of telling my story through clay. Where I come from, where I am at, and where I am going. My Mexican heritage influences my work but not the focus. People of different cultures will be able to connect to my work because of the universal theme of sacrifice and hard work.
I am familiar with computer programs: Photoshop, Lightroom, and most of the Microsoft office suite. I also received an Auto body Certificate from Texas State Technical College as well as numerous ICAR certificates. While working on my Auto body Certificate, I learned MIG, TIG, ARC, Plasma, and Oxyacetylene welding. I learned the skills to be able to repair or restore the cosmetic side of an automobile beginning to end.
With such a rich history behind it, ceramics is where I want to leave my mark. There is no one way of using clay. Clay can be functional, non-functional. It can be utilitarian or sculptural. A vessel can be built several feet high and wide or as small as several centimeters. The only limit seems to be within the ceramicist.
